Propagation Phase Noise. Impact on Future Vsat System Design
نویسنده
چکیده
The concepts of propagation phase and fm noise are presented comparing oscillator noise with phase fluctuations introduced by the propagation medium. Numerical values of the spectral density and variance are presented. The experimental apparatus used to measure the noise using Italsat’s 40 GHz beacon is surveyed and experimental values of the excess spectral noise observed are presented. The ultimate effect of the propagation phase noise is analysed for its effects in (i) a carrier acquisition system and (ii) the irreducible error rate of a digital communications system using MPSK or MQAM constellations. Several parametric studies are given illustrating the use of the expressions and curves obtained and a way forward in future analysis of optimization of data rate and throughput is presented. One of the conclusions points towards two orders of magnitude of improvement in on board oscillator short–term stability as worth pursuing and permitting to operate with carrier recovery systems of 10 Hz or less. The background of the study is a lap–top type of portable ground station with substantial data throughput.

Design of robust carrier tracking systems in high dynamic and high noise conditions, with emphasis on neuro-fuzzy controller
The robust carrier tracking is defined as the ability of a receiver to determine the phase and frequency of the input carrier signal in unusual conditions such as signal loss, input signal fading, high receiver dynamic, or other destructive effects of propagation. An implementation of tight tracking can be understood in terms of adopting a very narrow loop bandwidth that contradict with the req...

The NBS Boulder Laboratory has recently completed installation of a 6.1 meter Ku-band (14/12 GHz) satellite earth station and has acquired two 1.8 meter portable earth terminals and commercial spreadspectrum modems. This equipment was procured for the purpose of doing two-way time transfer experiments in collaboration with other timekeeping laboratories. Each portable earth terminal, often call...
متن کاملEffect of Underwater Ambient Noise on Quadraphase Phase-shift Keying Acoustic Sensor Network Links in Extremely Low Frequency Band
This study evaluates the impact of underwater ambient noise using seven real noise samples; Dolphin, Rain, Ferry, Sonar, Bubbles, Lightning, and Outboard Motor in three frequency ranges in extremely low frequency (ELF) band. The ELF band is the most significant bandwidth for underwater long-range communication. ELF band which is extended from 3 to 3000 Hz clearly, faces bandwidth limitation. Me...

This paper studies the provision of low data rate services in Micro-VSAT networks such as the bandlimited quasi-synchronous CDMA VSAT system currently being developed by ESA. It presents the results of a simulation study intended to evaluate the performance impact of several system design choices. The simulated network (which is a generalization of the first-generation system planned by ESA) is...
متن کاملIndoor Channel Characterization and Performance Analysis of a 60 GHz near Gigabit System for WPAN Applications
During the last decade, substantial knowledge about the 60 GHz millimeter-wave (MMW) channel has been accumulated and different architectures have been analyzed to develop MMW communication systems for commercial applications. The 60 GHz bandwidth is suitable for high data-rate and short-distance wireless communications. This interest is particularly due to the large bandwidth and the important...
